What does it mean when a city becomes a ‘smart city’? And what does that have to do with our everyday life in Halle-Neustadt?
A smart city is a city that is evolving to improve people’s lives – they use new, digital opportunities. It’s not just about technology, but above all about the people who live in the city. The aim is to make life in the smart city more livable, more sustainable and more common – with the help of digital solutions and good ideas.
Halle (Saale) is also on its way to a smart city. As one of 73 cities, Halle is taking part in the ‘Model Projects Smart Cities’ funding program of the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Construction. The local project is called Smart City Hall (Saale). Part of it is Smart Haneu – a digital educational education specifically for us in Hall–Neustadt. The project helps people there to better deal with digital media and techniques. It should also help everyone gain equal access to the Internet, devices and digital knowledge.
As part of Smart Haneu, different offers are being created here:
– Central place: In Passage 13 there is a Smart City Education Center with courses to computers, video editing, 3D printing and much more.
– Decentralized offers: The project “doctor data‘ helps with questions about smartphones and tablets. There is also one ideas competition For own projects on the subject of digital competence in Halle-Neustadt.
– public space: Artists design places with digital ideas to make the neighborhood more beautiful and modern. There should also be free WiFi for everyone.
