Bureau de Change (engl./frz. Wechselstube) ist ein Kooperationsprojekt zwischen dem Kulturbühne Neustadt und The Highrise Project (Stadtteil Armley in Leeds / UK), das einen Raum öffnet für co-kreative Praxis an der Schnittstelle von Community Arts, digitalem Storytelling und partizipativer Stadtraumpraxis. Beide Stadtteile, HaNeu und Armley sind Orte, die von sozialem Wandel und Neuerfindung geprägt sind.
Das Konzept von Bureau de Change funktioniert als metaphorischer Austauschraum im öffentlichen Raum: Statt Geld tauschen Menschen lokales Wissen, Erinnerungen und gelebte Erfahrungen, wobei die Beiträge die Grundlage für kollektive und Zentralismus-kritische Kartierung bilden, aus denen narratives lokales Mapping des Alltagslebens entstehen. Hinter “grauen Fassaden” und „namenlosen Straßen“ kommen versteckte pittoreske Innenhöfe und spannende informelle Treffpunkte zum Vorschein, aber auch alltägliche informelle Infrastrukturen der Fürsorge und Erinnerung.
In ko-kreativen Erkundungen und Workshops entwickeln wir – die Teilnehmenden und Facilitator:innen – unsere selbstbestimmte räumliche Handlungskompetenz und kollektive Autor:innenschaft weiter. Die Projektteams der Passage 13 und Highrise Project und lernen voneinander, stärken gemeinschaftsbasierte Ansätze kultureller Teilhabe und erproben, wie digitale Werkzeuge ortsbezogenes Storytelling unterstützen können. Die Workshops werden außerdem im Austausch mit dem unangefochtenen Projekt Straßen-QR realisiert.
Die internationale Kooperationspartnerschaft wird durch Cultural Bridge gefördert, ein Programm zur Unterstützung bilateraler künstlerischer Austauschprojekte zwischen Großbritannien und Deutschland in Zusammenarbeit mit Arts Council England, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, British Council, Creative Scotland, Fonds Soziokultur, Goethe-Institut London und Wales Arts International / Arts Council of Wales.

This new partnership between The Highrise Project and Kulturbühne Neustadt is a collaborative exchange at the intersection of community arts, digital storytelling, and participatory urban practice in post-industrial neighbourhoods shaped by social transformation and reinvigoration.
„Bureau de change“ functions as a metaphorical exchange space in public realm: instead of money, people contribute and trade local knowledge, memories, and lived experiences. These contributions become the basis for collective mapping processes, forming narrative cartographies of everyday life in both neighbourhoods – from hidden pittoresque courtyards and informal meeting points to everyday infrastructures of care and memory.
Through shared exploration, pop-up field research, and co-creative workshops, our participants and facilitators will co-develop their spatial literacy and collective authorship. The Highrise Project and Passage 13 teams will be learning from each other’s situated practices, strengthening community-led approaches to cultural participation, and testing how digital tools can support embodied, local storytelling. The workshops will be realised in close collabroation with the unchallenged Street-QR project!
The international partnership is funded by Cultural Bridge, which supports bilateral artistic exchange between the UK and Germany through collaboration between Arts Council England, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, British Council, Creative Scotland, Fonds Soziokultur, Goethe-Institut London and Wales Arts International / Arts Council of Wales.
