We exchange stories.
Bureau de Change is a UK-German community arts project by Kulturbühne Neustadt / Passage 13 in Halle-Neustadt and The Highrise Project in Armley (Leeds, UK).
Both neighbourhoods have industrial histories. Together, we explore what makes places meaningful: memories, hidden places, meeting points, and everyday stories.
Our “exchange office” in public space is a place where people exchange knowledge about their neighbourhood. What is a special place? Where do people feel at home? Which stories should be shared?
These contributions become the basis for collaboratively created maps, digital neighbourhood trails, and creative workshops. The aim is not to explain a place from the outside, but to make visible the perspectives of the people who live in and shape these places.
Together with participants from Halle-Neustadt and Armley, and in collaboration with the Straßen-QR project and Kulturfabrik 5.0 Gemeinschaftsamt, we explore how digital tools can help make local stories and places more visible.
The international partnership is funded by Cultural Bridge, a programme supporting artistic exchange projects between the UK and Germany.
