Samuel Scheidt was born in 1587 in Halle (Saale) and died there in 1654.
He was a German composer and organist of the early Baroque period.
He received his musical education in Halle and in Amsterdam under Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.
After his return, he worked as a court organist and later as director of church music in Halle.
Scheidt is considered one of the most important representatives of the North German organ school.
In 1624, he published his important work Tabulatura nova.
He composed numerous sacred vocal works.
His work had a lasting influence on the development of Protestant church music.
